'Kolkata known as the city of joy has always amazed me beyond words with everything that it has to offer India is a secular country and Kolkata is one of the best examples of this idea, since Kolkata has always embraced every religion and culture with open arms and has kept them safe close to its heart.this tolerance has enabled Kolkata to protect the various symbols associated with these various cultures and religion. Once at symbol is the beautiful nakhoda masjid that stands tall and proud at the intersection of zakariya street and rabindra sarani since 1926 and has been serving as the principal mosque of Kolkata for decades. The mosque was built by kutchi memon jamat a small community of Sunni Muslims and was founded by their leader Abdur Raheem osman who was supposed to be a shipping Prince, hence the name nakhoda that translates to Mariner hence it is the mariners mosque. the mosques architecture is inspired by the Mughal era Islamic architecture and the beauty of it can be seen in every NOOK and corner of the building. with three domes and 27 minerets it is a sight to behold. the gateway of the mosque is an actual replica of the buland darwaza of fatehpur sikri. The mosque can hold around 10000 people at once in its main prayer hall. The intricate carvings and the beautiful ornamentation seen on the walls of this mosque spectacular and has been preserved very well. hence the next time you want to checkout a historical building boasting Mughal architecture drop by this gorgeous mosque and you will not be disappointed. the street outside the mosque popularly known as the Zakaria Street is also food is paradise.the area is filled with shops serving some of the most delicious kebabs and other delicacies and if you can brave the clouds during the month of ramzan you will come across some special menu items that are only served this time of the year.so after a visit to the mosque drop into one of these entities and cater to your taste buds as well.so don\'t forget to visit this mosque the next time you are in this area and experience a journey down the memory lane of our beloved City.
